The Superhero Cake

Did a cake this weekend! It was a lot of fun to make it! I would love to do another cake sort of like this again!

My cake decorating I feel is turning into more of a rhythm for me...I don't panic like I used to. However, I'm starting to realize how much more meticulous I need to start being, like trying to get a super perfect smooth fondant cover and no frosting blobs and exactly level cake layers.

Ta da! This would be a perfect birthday cake for a little boy, too...or a big boy for that matter...my brother in law really likes superheroes as well. I'm a little proud of my ingenuity for the "S" on the top....as usual, I didn't have an exact picture in my head of what I wanted the cake to look like, so when I decided on an "S", I realized I needed to cut the yellow gumpaste to make the S be red from the main cake color if that makes any sense. I also freehanded everything, no stencils were used, I just looked at some pictures off the internet for the S and the batman logo.

Yesterday was 11/11/11, so I invited some friends over for a party to celebrate this. I supplied hot dogs and everyone else was supposed to bring food that was long and skinny, like 11's. There was corn on the cob, biscotti, candy bars, and pretzels in attendance, among other long and skinny food items. Then we watched Ocean's 11. At 11:11, we too note that it was 11:11 on 11/11/11 and then the party was over. We think that next year we should have a 12/12/12 party and watch Ocean's 12. Unfortunately, there is no 13th month so we can't really have a 13/13/13 party and finish the series.....

OK I'm off to do more stuff with my day! May your weekend be super duper!
